Hi, I'm Ikaika!
FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO A LIFE OF SERVICE
I am a local boy, born and raised in Hawaii, who grew up on a quiet street in Kailua, Oahu. Both of my parents are longtime kama’ainas, where we lived a humble lifestyle, and enjoyed the simple pleasures of living in the country. I attended Kainalu Elementary, Kailua Intermediate, and graduated from Kailua High School.

On that tragic day of September 11, 2001, I felt a compelling need to serve my Country, and on my 17th birthday, I went down to the army recruiting office to enlist. I am proud of my military service, including serving two combat deployments in Iraq as an infantryman, from 2004-2006 and 2008-2009. Upon fulfilling my military service, I attended the University of of Hawaii and the University of Phoenix, (Downtown Oahu) where I received my Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Psychology (Forensic).
I am happily married to my wife Tracy, whom I met shortly after returning home in 2009, who is also a kama’aina and a lifelong Mo'ili’ili resident. In 2016, we decided to "put down roots" by purchasing our first home in Mo'ili’ili. I have been blessed with two young boys who keep me busy while I handle my full-time career as a Community Homeless Liaison with the Hawaii Department of Education. I have been working with Honolulu's homeless community to nearly a decade.
I am a proud HGEA union member! Union Strong!
Throughout these past years, I have developed a strong understanding on how to address the key issues of homelessness, the surging issues of spiraling crime in our neighborhoods, and to increase the quality of life our community. I believe that my life experiences serving in our US Armed Forces, my extensive eduction, and my specialized experience working directly with Hawaii's key issues of homelessness, crime, education and affordable housing, has given me the proper tools to face the serious challenges of the future.
I am one who accepts responsibility and always sees things through. All my life, I have dedicated myself to positive change and I know that I can be a powerful voice for our community that will make our community safer and stronger.
